Movember is a great international annual event when men grow their mustache and beard to raise awareness of men’s health issues (such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, depression and men’s suicide). The goal of Movember is to “change the face of men’s health“. It all started one night in a pub in 1999 when 80 men from Adelaide, Australia grew mustaches for charity throughout the month of November. In 2004, an unrelated group in Melbourne organized an event where 30 men would grow a mustache for 30 days. This group would later become the Movember Foundation charity which has since then raised $174-million worldwide.
Movember is also well known in Slovenia. This year Marko attended the competition for the most handsome beard and mustache called Brkovanje organized by The Club of Maribor Students. Throughout November competitors went to Studio Oranž to get their beard trimmed, styled and photographed. The final chapter took place in a beautiful coffee shop and lounge bar Nana where all contestants’ photos were displayed. The winner was chosen by public voting.
And Marko WON! 🙂 It was totally unexpected. We were thrilled. The competition was fierce and he won just by one vote. He got a Polaroid Camera for the prize. It was a great night, very nicely organized, and I think he will participate again next year. 🙂
