The 15th of August is an important holiday for Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodoxy and Oriental Orthodoxy called the Assumption of Mary. It represents the bodily taking up of the Virgin Mary into Heaven at the end of her earthly life. This holiday is special for my home village Slavina because the Church there is dedicated to Mother Mary. On this day our village prepares a concert with different vocal groups. There are only around 100 houses in Slavina and this is the only event in Slavina in a whole year so it’s quite a big deal.

Last three years I had the honor to host a concert. This year a concert celebrated its 20th anniversary. It’s a lovely event in which all the locals gather together. After the concert, a traditional meal is served (potatoes in cabbage with sausage) and the party goes on with one of the Slovenian national entertainment ensembles. The photos below are from last year concert because Marko was there with me. Unfortionaly, he was unable to join me this year so I don’t have any photos. But I wanted to share a little of my home, my background and tradition we celebrate with you.
