Scottish Diary | 17 May 2017

The day started very adventurously and exciting. We went on a Loch Ness boat tour to find the monster Nessie. Yes, you’re hearing it right. We went on a hunt for the mystical creature and were confident that we will be the ones who will discover it. We had our camera ready, our sonars (eyes) on and ready to find it. The boat was on the lake for a whole hour. It offered us stunning views over the left and right side of the lake, the bar offered whiskey if you needed some courage to face the unknown and young intriguing guide offered us all the information we needed to look for it. After an hour of an intensive search for Nessie, we left the boat even more puzzled if there is a monster in the Loch Ness or not. We didn’t see anything but the magical enigma remains. Maybe this was encouraged by watching the movie Loch Ness (1996) on our Scotland adventure.

The curious and enchanted boat trip was our last act in Fort Augustus. We had a glimpse of Caledonian Canal which connects Scottish east coast at Inverness with the west coast near Fort William. The canal was constructed in the early nineteenth century. We took the last look over gorgeous mansion we stayed in for the last three days and went on the road. We continued to the north. This time to the coast of the North Sea to the town Nairn. We went there because of sand beaches and in addition, we got a lovely day full of sunshine. A warm lunch by the coast felt like summer is around the corner.

With the sun started setting down we went towards our new home for the next three days. The host of our new Airbnb home advised us to bring some food with us because there is no store nearby. So we stopped in a small town called Dufftown which lies in the region where the finest whisky of Scotland is made. There are numerous whisky distilleries around that offer tours and whisky tastings. The right place for proper whisky experience. We didn’t visit any because we were too late (again) and went on a search after our countryside cottage to have a good night sleep.
