On our last day in Malta, the weather was still windy, rainy and the sun was nowhere to be found. We decided to rent a car and drive around Malta. The first stop was a lovely fishing village Marsaxlokk. The village’s name comes from Marsa, which means port and Xlokk, which is the local name for south east. Harbour is full of traditional Maltese colourful boats called Luzzu which are still in use to this day. Because of the weather, everything was closed, the streets were pretty much empty and we even saw a little tornado on the sea. Even though the sky was not perfect, for me Marsaxlokk was the cutest place on Malta.
We continued our day to UNESCO World Heritage Site to Mnajdra Temples. Mnajdra is found in an isolated position on a southern coast overlooking the isle of Fifla. The temples are date back to 3600 – 3200 BC; even earlier that Stonehenge. And as their more famous English brother, they are astronomically aligned as well.
Malta is a beautiful small island full of interesting and diverse places. I would like to go there again one day when the weather will be nicer to swim in Blue Lagoon and to see the other two islands Gozo and Comino. One day. But for now let’s focus on one of the most charming time of the year: December, Christmas lights and calendar full of events with family and friends. I love it all and can’t wait to wear red every day. 🙂
